Overview
A rhinoplasty is a transformative, surgical procedure commonly known as a “nose job” that is designed to reshape the nose for either functional or cosmetic reasons. Benefits
A rhinoplasty can have functional and aesthetic benefits for patients in search of realistic expectations. Aesthetic benefits can improve facial proportions with other facial features, leading to better facial symmetry. Nose shape can be redefined and profile can be enhanced allowing for a more balanced facial palette. Functional benefits include improved breathing or correcting injuries or birth defects which can impact your daily living.
Who is a Candidate?
A candidate for a rhinoplasty is someone who is dissatisfied with the shape, position, or length of their nose. Additionally, candidates who have trouble breathing due to a deviated septum would benefit functionally from the procedure as well.
It’s important for candidates to be in good overall health, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery. A thorough consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons is essential to determine if a rhinoplasty is the right option based on the patient’s goals and anatomy.

What to Expect/Recovery Time
A rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, so patients go home the same day. The choice of incision depends on the amount individual needs. Rhinoplasties can be closed or open depending on patient and surgeon preferences.
Closed rhinoplasties have incisions entirely inside the nose while open rhinoplasties have incisions on the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). Swelling and bruising postoperatively is completely normal and pain is very well tolerated. While scarring is a natural part of the healing process, it generally fades over time and can be minimized with proper care.
Overall, patients should expect a gradual recovery with the final results becoming more apparent as swelling subsides and the nose settles into its new shape.
