Face Lift

A rhytidectomy, or facelift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing signs of aging in the face and neck. While a facelift includes a necklift, a necklift does not include a facelift. The procedure tightens the skin, reduces skin redundancy, and enhances facial contour for a more rejuvenated appearance.

Overview

A rhytidectomy or facelift is a cosmetic, surgical procedure designedto reduce signs of aging in the face and neck. A Facelift includes anecklift while a necklift does not include a facelift. A facelift proceduretightens the skin, reduces skin redundancy, and enhances facialcontour for a more rejuvenated appearance.

Benefits

Facelift candidates reduce sagging of the skin, and wrinkles while tightening underlying facial structures. A facelift can also define the jawline and reduce the appearance of jowls while allowing for a more youthful appearance. These facial changes can enhance self-esteem and boost self-confidence.

Who is a Candidate?

A facelift candidate is typically an adult in good overall health who is looking to enhance their facial contour. Candidates have loose, sagging skin on face and neck, and show signs of facial aging but have good skin elasticity.

Ideal candidates do not smoke, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgery. A thorough consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons is essential to ensure the procedure aligns with your goals and health status.

What to Expect/Recovery Time

Facelift is performed as an outpatient procedure and patients can go home the same day. The type of facelift incisions vary depending on the extent of the procedure being addressed (traditional, mini, and mid-facelift) depending on your needs. Discreet incisions are usually made in the natural creases of the temples (within the hairline), around ears and may continue behind ears into the scalp. Incisions are usually hidden and proper scar care minimizes their visibility.

Patients may feel discomfort and swelling in the face that is well tolerated with prescribed medication. It’s important to follow all post-operative instructions carefully.

Most patients can return to light activities after surgery but should avoid vigorous exercise and heavy lifting until cleared by their surgeon. Regular follow-up appointments with your surgeon are important to monitor healing and address any concerns during the recovery process.
